By Daniele D’Alessio: In a recent interview on The Volume, Jake Paul (5-0, 4 KOs) states he doesn’t want to reschedule the fight with Tommy Fury (7-0, 4 KOs) and he would rather fight Tyson Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs) or John Fury instead.
“He wants the payday. But I said it before, I don’t wanna take the fight with him, he doesn’t deserve it. I’d rather fight Tyson Fury. I’ll fight his brother or his dad before I’ll fight Tommy.”
Tommy and Paul were meant to meet in the ring back on the 18th of December 2020, but the ex-love island contestant pulled out due to a broken rib and chest infection.
Since withdrawing from the bout, Tommy has received tons of online abuse and has made it clear that he wants to reschedule a fight with Paul in 2022.
However, it seems the ex-YouTuber turned professional boxer is setting his sights on other opponents.
Tyson Fury is the current lineal heavyweight champion and is seen by many as the best in the division. The Gypsy King hasn’t got a fight confirmed for Spring, however, the chances of him fighting Paul at this stage of his career is extremely low.
John Fury was a professional boxer in his day, although he is mostly known nowadays as an occasional pundit for BT Sport and a fierce supporter of both his sons.
The father of Tyson Fury famously shouted abuse at The Problem Child during the live stream press conference before Paul-Fury was scheduled to take place.
Now at the age of 57, it is hard to see Big John stepping into the ring with a man more than half his age. Still, in this era of YouTuber boxing, anything is possible.
After destroying Tyron Woodley (0-2, 0 KOs) in their second bout, Paul certainly needs a step up in competition and some boxing pundits such as Tony Bellew (30-3-1, 20 KOs) want him to prove himself against a legitimate pro boxer.
Time will tell whether The Problem Child is serious about boxing or if he is just looking to milk as much money from the sport as possible.
Former world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (53-6-1, 34 KOs) has also been mentioned by Paul and he believes this would be a credible victory.
Whether you like Paul or not, he has a range of options and millions of people are likely to tune into his next fight regardless of who he faces.
