‘Advanced’ move underway for underused Tottenham man Joe Rodon to seal surprise exit

Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon could take a surprise route if he leaves the club this month after emerging as a top target for Spanish side Levante, according to reports.

Joe Rodon has been a bit-part player since making the step up from Championship side Swansea City to Tottenham in 2020. Indeed, he only made 12 Premier League appearances in his debut season.

This term, he is yet to start a league game, only coming on as a substitute once. That was back in September; six appearances have followed in other competitions since.

But still a fringe player, Rodon has been advised to leave Tottenham so he can boost his chances at international level.

And to do so, the Wales defender could head abroad. Reports in Spain (via Sport Witness) have claimed he is a major target for Levante in La Liga.

Levante are looking to add a new centre-back to their squad and Rodon has attributes they are lacking. Specifically, he stands out for his height, character and reading of the game.

Antonio Conte is not giving him the chance to express those qualities in north London. However, the Spurs boss has praised his willingness to learn.

But the next phase of his development could come away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Levante now want to wrap up a deal before the transfer deadline on Monday.

It is not clear if they are intending to take him on loan or on a permanent basis, but the deal is said to be fairly advanced. Spurs have him under contract still until 2025.

Joe Rodon attracts Prem interest

Despite Levante’s push to take him to Spain, Rodon could yet get the chance to stay in the Premier League.

Reports have linked him with Brighton should they lose Dan Burn to Newcastle United.

Rodon played under Brighton boss Graham Potter 28 times when they were together at Swansea.

Now, they could reunite to bolster the Brighton backline in the event of Burn leaving.

But with competition from abroad, they will have to act speedily before the deadline – as will any suitor now trying to take him.
