Market: Under 2.5 goals
Odds: 10/11 @ 888sport
Two sides who find themselves seeking a real boost on Wednesday night, Middlesbrough will welcome Cardiff to the Riverside.
Starting with the hosts, while Middlesbrough might have enjoyed a real boost when Chris Wilder arrived at the Riverside earlier in the year, the Reds are in the midst of an extended rut. Now knowing that they face a huge task if they’re to claim a play-off spot this season, the former Sheffield United boss finds his side enduring a five-match winless run. Last seen throwing away the lead at Swansea and having to settle for a 1-1 draw in south Wales, Boro have also gained a reputation for their rather glaring struggles in the final third. Including a shock 1-0 loss at home against Hull on April 9th, Wednesday’s hosts have bagged just a single strike on their five-match winless run. Likewise, it should also be highlighted, Wilder’s men have seen each of those five Championship matchups finish with under 2.5 goals.
As for the visitors, while Cardiff might have skyrocketed their way away from any potential relegation scrap, they also find themselves enduring a downbeat run of form. Appearing to limp their way over the finish line, Steve Morison’s men were last seen putting in another toothless display. Eventually getting hit with a 1-0 loss away at Sheffield United, the Welsh outfit have lost four of their last five Championship contests. Likewise, along with losing their last three second-tier fixtures on the spin, Cardiff have also shown their own rather glaring issues in front of goal. Failing to find the net in back-to-back matchups, we could be in for another cagey affair at the Riverside here. It should be noted, with six of the last seven meetings between Boro and Cardiff finishing with under 2.5 goals, we’re backing a similar outcome.
