Pep Guardiola is reportedly keen on taking Barcelona youngster Nico Gonzalez, who only made his debut this season, to Manchester City.
Guardiola has brought a number of quality players to Manchester City during his time there. Indeed, the stars the Spaniard signs rarely disappoint in a City shirt.
Take Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias and Rodri as recent examples of the side’s quality recruitment.
Clearly, those signings are paying off, due to City’s current 11-point lead at the top of the Premier League.
A lot of City’s recent signings have been established stars already. However, Guardiola is looking to one of his previous clubs, for a young player who is yet to really prove himself.
According to Sport, via Sport Witness, City are keen on Barcelona youngster Nico Gonzalez.
The 20-year-old made his Barca senior debut this season, and has started 11 league games since. The Spaniard has scored two goals and registered one assist in that time.
Guardiola reportedly feels Gonzalez is a ‘natural fit’ despite his lack of experience. As a defensive-midfielder, he is seen as a ready-made replacement for Fernandinho, when he leaves the English champions.
While City seem very keen, Gonzalez will not be cheap, given he is under contract for at least another two seasons.
What’s more, Barcelona appear reluctant to let the youngster go without receiving a decent fee.
Gonzalez and Vinicius Junior City La Liga targets
While Gonzalez is a relatively inexperienced City target, they are also keen on a much bigger star, in Vinicius Junior.
The Brazilian has been in dazzling form in Spain this season, contributing to 17 league goals in 21 games.
As such, it is clear to see why Guardiola’s side have taken an interest. Vinicius has also been linked with City’s rivals Manchester United.
Surely, the Brazilian would warrant a huge fee were Real to let him go.
