The proposed loan move of Jesse Lingard from Manchester United to Newcastle for the remaining part of the season is on the verge of collapsing, according to The Telegraph. The talks between the two clubs have apparently hit a large stumbling block and unless the problems are resolved quickly, the forward is likely to remain at Old Trafford until his contract expires in the summer.
United reportedly rejected all interest from Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham for the services of the 29-year-old, having no desire to help strengthen a rival in the top four race. Everton are also believed to have had an offer turned down.
Newcastle were prepared to cover of of Lingard’s £75,000-per-week wages and pay a considerable loan fee, but United insist on adding a clause which would see their income rise further in case the Magpies escape relegation. That request appears to have taken the total proposed cost of the deal well over the top as far as Newcastle are concerned, and they’re now preparing to move on to alternative targets if they have to.
