Liverpool are looking to follow up their marquee signing of Luis Diaz with a £5m future star in a reported late market swoop.

The Reds announced the acquisition of Colombian winger Diaz on Sunday with no sweating over Monday’s transfer deadline. However, they could still yet be working overtime as their business for the January window appears to be unfinished.

According to Sky Sports reporter Vinny O’Connor, Liverpool are trying to sign Fabio Carvalho from Fulham.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been linked with the 19-year-old for a number of months. He is out of contract in the summer.

And his performances in the Championship, which have been very impressive, put a number of top teams on alert.

Sensing that time is of the essence, the Anfield hierarchy have submitted the bid of £5m for Carvalho.

Fabrizio Romano has added the two clubs are in ‘concrete talks’. Nothing has been agreed yet, though.

There’s work to be done over the structure of the deal. But the two do have business history, with Harry Wilson on loan at Craven Cottage this season.

Carvalho is said to be attracted by the prospect of joining Liverpool. He has rejected several new contract offers to stay with Fulham.

The Londoners are desperate to keep hold of him – and his goal contributions so far this campaign make it clear to see why.

From his attacking midfield position the England youth international has registered seven goals and five assists in 18 league appearances.

However, Liverpool appear to be in the driving seat and even if they can’t wrap up a deal in the next 36 hours, they could come back when he becomes a free agent.

It seems the Reds are heeding the advice of their former player Michael Thomas, as he urged them to bring Carvalho to Anfield.

“Carvalho looks like a very bright talent,” the pundit told Caught Offside. “Can play with both feet and has an eye for goal.

“Klopp has already shown that he is more than happy to play young talent and with all the experienced players at the club, it is an amazing place for younger players to come and learn about everything on and off the pitch.

“He would add to the huge amount of talent who are already at the club, so definitely a good signing.”
