In a decisive move aligning with the club’s statutes, Joan Laporta has formally submitted his resignation as president of FC Barcelona. This step, taken during the ordinary board meeting held this Monday, paves the way for his candidacy in the upcoming presidential elections, officially called for March 15.
The resignation, adhering to the stipulations of Article 42 of the Catalan club’s bylaws, triggered a significant reshuffling within the boardroom. Several current directors resigned their posts to join the electoral process alongside Laporta, fundamentally altering the administrative landscape of the club in the interim period.
A Reshaped Board for a Transitional Period
The wave of resignations included prominent figures such as Institutional Vice-President Elena Fort and Social Vice-President Rafael Escuder. They were joined by board members Ferran Olivé, Josep Maria Albert, Xavier Barbany, Miquel Camps, Aureli Mas, Xavier Puig, and Joan Soler i Ferre.
Consequently, a newly configured board of directors will now steer the club until the end of the current mandate on June 30. According to the official FC Barcelona website, the interim executive body will be led by Rafael Yuste as president. Josep Cubells will assume the roles of vice-president and secretary, while Alfons Castro will serve as treasurer.
Completing this transitional administration are members Josep Ignasi Macià, Àngel Rodelgas, Joan Solé i Sost, and Cisco Pujol. Following the official announcement of this new composition, the Barcelona board proceeded with its scheduled meeting to address the predefined agenda items.
