Majed Abdullah, the legendary figure of Al-Nassr Club, recently placed Saudi journalist Walid Al-Farraj, host of the program “Action with Walid” on MBC Action, in an uncomfortable predicament. This incident unfolded amid conflicting social media claims regarding an alleged refusal by Abdullah to grant an interview.
The controversy ignited when Saudi journalist Abdulaziz Al-Oseimy posted on his official X account, asserting that Majed Abdullah declined an interview invitation from the “Action with Walid” team. Al-Oseimy attributed the refusal to the program’s persistent criticism of Al-Nassr Club. His tweet read: “At today’s Players’ Friends Association ceremony, legend Majed Abdullah refused the presence of the Action mic (with Walid) and an interview. Legend struck a blow—well done, legend—this program is an adversary to Al-Nassr and its supporters, and we hold only animosity towards it.”
Discrepancies and Reactions Surrounding the Incident
Contradicting Al-Oseimy’s allegations, Walid Al-Farraj responded via his official X account, clarifying the events that transpired during the ceremony held at the Saudi Olympic Committee headquarters. He explained that after the iftar meal, the program’s correspondent Anas Bin Ajab had merely requested a commemorative photograph with Majed Abdullah, and no interview or further interaction occurred. Al-Farraj denounced the falsehoods, stating: “Some people cannot satiate their appetite for lies, even during Ramadan.”
In response, Al-Oseimy reinforced his initial claim by sharing a video featuring Majed Abdullah himself. In the footage, the club’s historic top scorer confirms his refusal to engage in an interview with the program’s reporter during the event, citing the channel’s antagonistic stance towards Al-Nassr. Abdullah declared: “Today, at the association’s iftar, the Action with Walid program’s correspondent approached me for an interview, but I declined because any channel opposing Al-Nassr, constantly disparaging it, cannot expect me to cooperate.”
This episode follows a period in which Walid Al-Farraj endured strong criticism from segments of Al-Nassr supporters, notably due to his coverage of club-related issues and a well-publicized dispute with international goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi.
It is noteworthy that Majed Abdullah holds the record as the all-time leading scorer for Al-Nassr Club, having netted 259 goals. He is succeeded by Mohammed Al-Sahlawi, who has scored 131 goals.
