In the wake of their recent setback at the Africa Cup of Nations and on the cusp of the upcoming World Cup, Morocco finds itself amid significant transformations within its football hierarchy. This Thursday, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) appointed Mohamed Ouahbi, previously the coach of the victorious Under-20 World Cup team, as the new head coach of the senior national squad.

Negotiations with Andrés Iniesta for a Sporting Director Role

However, the restructuring process within the FRMF appears far from complete. For several months, discussions have been underway to bring Andrés Iniesta on board as the federation’s new sporting director. Iniesta, who was present at the final held in Rabat by royal invitation from King Mohammed VI, was widely expected to be unveiled alongside the new head coach. Nevertheless, the absence of a finalized agreement has postponed any formal announcement, leaving the negotiations in a state of limbo.

Should these talks culminate successfully, Iniesta’s involvement could pave the way for his former teammate to assume the managerial position after the World Cup concludes, thus hinting at further strategic shifts within Moroccan football leadership.
