A’ja Wilson has solidified her dominance in the WNBA by capturing a historic fifth Most Valuable Player award this Thursday, marking her third consecutive MVP title. The forward for the Las Vegas Aces secured 65 out of 74 first-place votes, alongside nine second-place votes, surpassing notable contenders including Lynx rookie Olivia Miles, Fever stars Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell, as well as Liberty veteran Breanna Stewart.
Reflecting on this milestone, Wilson acknowledged the significance of the achievement, stating, “This one here is just a little bit different. As a girl, you dream so big, and you write your goals out, and you just never imagine that you will be able to check them off.”
Despite the accolade, Wilson chose to forego the customary pregame MVP ceremony as the No. 3 Las Vegas Aces prepared to face the No. 2 Golden State Warriors in a crucial semifinal matchup. She emphasized her competitive focus, explaining, “I love the fans, but I will not be doing that. I will be warming up with my team… Everyone in this room knows how much of a competitor I am [and] what my main focus is.”
Record-Breaking Scoring Feats
Wilson’s on-court performance this season further cements her legacy. She averaged an impressive 26.2 points per game in 2026, establishing the second-highest single-season scoring average in WNBA history, trailing only her own remarkable 26.9 points per game achieved in 2024. Additionally, Wilson holds four of the top seven single-season scoring records, underscoring her consistent offensive prowess.
