After concluding a remarkable 14-year career at Barcelona, Alexia Putellas is set to continue her football journey in England, reportedly signing with the Women’s Super League’s London City Lionesses. The two-time Ballon d’Or recipient made the decision to leave Barcelona last month, bringing to an end an era marked by extraordinary achievements.

During her tenure at Barcelona, Putellas amassed an impressive collection of honors, including 38 trophies, 232 goals across 507 appearances, and four UEFA Women’s Champions League titles. Her success extended to the international stage as well, where she played a key role in Spain’s victory at the 2023 World Cup.

The London City Lionesses, under the ownership of US billionaire Michele Kang, recently secured a sixth-place finish in the 2025/26 WSL season following their promotion to the top tier last summer. The club’s ambition appears to be reflected in their pursuit of high-profile signings like Putellas.

Putellas Confirms Safety Following Venezuela Earthquakes

In addition to the transfer news, Putellas was in the spotlight for a different reason this week. While in Caracas, Venezuela, she was caught up in a series of powerful earthquakes registering above magnitude 7. Demonstrating concern and solidarity, she took to social media to assure fans and followers of her and her family’s safety.

“Both my family and I are safe,” Putellas posted, while in Venezuela for events connected to her Eleven Foundation and the Liga Monumental small-sided tournament. Expressing her support for those affected, she added, “Sending lots of strength during this tragedy to all Venezuelans and to all the families affected.”
