Allisha Gray, guard for the Atlanta Dream, suffered a left-hand injury during the WNBA Playoffs semifinal against the New York Liberty on Sunday, affecting her participation in the crucial game.
Details of the Injury
The injury occurred early in the first quarter when Gray was defending against a layup attempt by Sabrina Ionescu at State Farm Arena. She immediately grabbed her shooting hand, specifically her pinky and ring fingers, indicating discomfort. Medical staff responded by taping the two fingers together in the locker room, allowing Gray to briefly return to the court in the second quarter.
Despite her return, Gray struggled to maintain control of the ball, missing a three-point shot and eventually removing the medical tape on the court in visible frustration. Shortly before halftime, she re-injured the same hand and left the game again.
Following this second setback, the Atlanta Dream announced that Gray would not return for the remainder of the game, leaving the team to continue without one of their key players during this critical playoff matchup.
