Amanda Anisimova overcame both weather interruptions and a challenging start to secure her place in the fourth round of the 2026 Canadian Open on Thursday in Toronto. The tournament’s No. 8 seed dropped the opening set to Nikola Bartunkova but rallied to claim a hard-fought victory, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4.

Bartunkova surged ahead early, building a 4-1 lead in the first set. However, Anisimova regained her composure and dominated the second set, winning it in just half an hour. The Czech competitor fought back in the deciding set, reaching 4-2, but Anisimova responded by winning crucial games down the stretch, including a pivotal service hold when facing 15-40 in the eighth game.

Reflecting on her opponent’s style, Anisimova acknowledged Bartunkova’s tactical approach, saying, “She’s very crafty, and she’s had a great year. I feel like I managed her game style very well and stuck with it, especially in moments where I was down.”

Amanda Anisimova Rebuilds After Injury at the 2026 Canadian Open

This victory marked Anisimova’s first since her appearance at Wimbledon last month, where a wrist injury had interrupted her progress. The win at the Canadian Open signals a positive step in her recovery and return to form.

“I’m just trying to find my game, and, yeah, find myself on the court,” Anisimova explained. “I felt like I was myself again on the court. I was kind of missing that for the last few months.”

With the momentum regained, Anisimova now looks ahead to the Round of 16 at the Canadian Open, returning to the venue where she reached the final in 2024. She aims to continue building on this promising resurgence as the tournament progresses.
