Brais Méndez has officially left Real Sociedad, as the club has agreed to transfer the غاليكية midfielder to Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew for a fee of six million euros, according to sources from MARCA. Arriving in San Sebastián four years ago from Celta Vigo for 14 million euros, Méndez was initially considered a significant acquisition for the txuriurdin side.

During his early tenure under coach Imanol Alguacil, Méndez proved to be a key player, especially throughout his first two seasons. However, his influence diminished in later years, particularly under the management of Sergio Francisco and Pellegrino Matarazzo, leading to a reduced role within the squad.

End of an Era at Anoeta

Méndez becomes the first player to depart Real Sociedad this season among those still under contract but open to transfer offers. This follows a similar situation last summer, when he nearly left the club but ultimately stayed. Initially, the club had valued him at around seven million euros—roughly half of his original transfer cost—and the current deal with Columbus Crew closely approaches that figure.

Over four seasons, the midfielder, who wore the number 23 for Real Sociedad, made a total of 166 appearances. His debut campaign was the most productive, tallying 47 matches and 11 goals, marking the highest goal output of his professional career. Now, Méndez embarks on a new chapter in the United States, leaving behind a substantial legacy at Anoeta.
