Americans are on the verge of ending the twice-yearly ritual of adjusting their clocks, following a decisive vote in the House of Representatives. In a significant step, the House passed the Sunshine Protection Act with a tally of 308 to 117, aiming to eliminate the biannual switch between Daylight Savings Time and قياسي Time.

This legislation proposes to make Daylight Savings Time the permanent standard nationwide, sparing residents the disruption of clock changes each spring and fall. Notably, the bill includes exceptions for states like Hawaii and most of Arizona, which currently observe قياسي Time year-round.

Next Steps Toward Permanent Daylight Savings Time

With the House’s approval secured, the bill now moves to the Senate for consideration. Senator Patty Murray, a Democrat from Washington, has urged the Senate to hold a vote “as soon as possible.” She was instrumental in advancing similar legislation in 2022, although that version stalled in the House.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump has expressed a willingness to sign the bill if it reaches his desk, despite previously shifting his stance between favoring Daylight Savings and قياسي Time. Should the legislation become law before Sunday, نوفمبر 1, 2026, Americans could bid farewell to the disruptive clock changes for good.
