Denise O’Sullivan is set to return to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) as she completes a loan move from Liverpool to Gotham FC. The 32-year-old Irish midfielder’s transfer includes a permanent purchase obligation valued at €350,000, with a contract extending through the 2029 season and an option for 2030.

Having spent only six months competing in England’s Women’s Super League, O’Sullivan has chosen to return to the United States, driven by personal considerations. This decision reunites her with the NWSL, where she previously enjoyed a prolific tenure.

O’Sullivan’s Impact and Gotham FC’s Ambitions

Before her brief stint in England, O’Sullivan made her mark with the North Carolina Courage, becoming the club’s all-time leader in appearances with 186 matches across all competitions. She assumed the role of captain in 2023 and was instrumental in the franchise securing two NWSL Championships along with three NWSL Shields.

Her arrival is part of Gotham FC’s ongoing efforts to bolster their squad. The reigning NWSL champions have been actively strengthening their roster this summer, highlighted by their recent acquisition of Sam Kerr on a free transfer from Chelsea and the re-signing of Emily Sonnett under the league’s new High Impact Player regulations.
