A24, a studio renowned for delivering high-quality films on modest budgets, is set to break its own financial record with its upcoming project. The studio’s first venture into video game adaptations, ‘Elden Ring’, directed by Alex Garland, is reported to carry a budget of approximately $200 million, marking a significant leap from its previous expenditures.

To put this into perspective, the studio’s most costly production to date was ‘Marty Supreme’, which had a budget of $70 million, while Garland’s earlier film, ‘Civil War’, was made with $50 million. This new figure nearly triples those amounts, underscoring A24’s ambitious commitment to bringing this adaptation to life.

Faithfully Bringing the Lands Between to the Big Screen

‘Elden Ring’ is based on the critically acclaimed video game developed by FromSoftware, with its expansive lore penned by George R. R. Martin. The game earned the prestigious 2022 Game of the Year award, and the film aims to faithfully translate its immersive world to cinema audiences. Production has been ongoing for several months, demonstrating a focused effort to capture the essence of the source material.

The movie boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, and Nick Offerman. The decision to shoot the film with IMAX technology further emphasizes the studio’s dedication to a visually compelling experience. Audiences can expect to see the film hit theaters on March 3, 2028.

In addition to ‘Elden Ring’, A24 is also developing another video game adaptation. Their upcoming project based on Death Stranding is currently in pre-production, with the team actively scouting locations to bring that universe to life as well. This signals a growing interest from the studio in exploring the rich narratives offered by video game worlds.
