The Los Angeles club holds the Brazilian midfielder’s “discovery rights” and is requesting nearly one million euros from Messi’s team to proceed with the transfer.
Inter Miami has already secured an agreement with Casemiro, the former Manchester United midfielder. The contract, which has been drafted and signed for several months, commits the Brazilian to Messi’s team for the upcoming three seasons. Despite this, the transfer has yet to be officially completed or announced.
Currently excelling at the World Cup with the Brazilian national team, Casemiro has already found the net and helped Brazil advance to the round of 16 following their victory over Japan. However, his anticipated arrival in Miami, where Messi and his teammates eagerly await, remains pending.
Los Angeles Galaxy’s Discovery Rights Complicate Transfer
Even though Casemiro’s contract with Manchester United has expired and he is technically a free agent, Inter Miami faces an obstacle due to Major League Soccer’s rules on discovery rights. These rights, which grant priority to a club for signing a player, are currently held by Los Angeles Galaxy. Consequently, Galaxy is demanding compensation estimated between $700,000 and $1 million to release these rights to Miami.
This financial demand is a standard procedure within the league, though it has delayed the formalization of Casemiro’s move. Until this issue is resolved, the Brazilian midfielder’s transfer to Inter Miami remains in limbo despite all other contractual agreements being in place.
