The value of Pokémon cards has surged dramatically, marking one of the most unexpected trends in the collectibles market. Since 2019, their worth has multiplied by 40 times, surpassing the growth of notable assets such as Bitcoin, gold, and even the S&P 500 index. This impressive rise has brought the Pokémon Card Ladder index to within a mere 129 points of the tech giant Nvidia’s stock performance.
This comparison emerges from an analysis by the economist known online as “La Pizarra de Andrés,” who examined the growth trajectories of various assets beginning in 2019. According to the Card Ladder platform, which specializes in tracking trading card values, the Pokémon index currently stands at 4,010 points. Nvidia’s stock index, by contrast, is slightly ahead at 4,139 points. Both have seen remarkable growth, with the Pokémon cards increasing 40-fold in value while Nvidia’s shares have climbed 41-fold during the same period.
Outperforming Traditional and Digital Assets
What makes this data particularly striking is the nature of the comparison. Pokémon cards, a collectible asset, have outpaced some of the most recognized financial instruments. The study also includes other major assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, gold, the Nasdaq 100, the S&P 500, and Micron Technology. Yet, none of these have matched the performance of Pokémon cards at the end of the analyzed timeframe, highlighting the extraordinary appeal and value appreciation of this niche market.
The data reveals that the most notable gains have occurred over the last two years, during which the Pokémon Card Ladder index has experienced an especially sharp increase. This recent acceleration has propelled the cards to near parity with one of the stock market’s brightest performers, underscoring a remarkable shift in how collectibles are valued within the broader financial landscape.
