Carlos Queiroz has stepped down as head coach of Ghana following the team’s exit from the World Cup in the round of 32. The Black Stars were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Colombia on Friday in Kansas City, managing only eight shots on goal throughout the match.
Appointed in April after the departure of Otto Addo, Queiroz brought with him extensive experience, having led Iran at the previous World Cup in Qatar and previously served as a coach at elite clubs including Real Madrid and as an assistant at Manchester United.
Reflecting on the Journey and Future Ambitions
In his farewell statement, Queiroz expressed a mix of pride and frustration: “I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted المزيد.” He emphasized that the growth of Ghanaian football extends beyond the pitch, urging the nation to foster an environment that nurtures talent comprehensively.
“The future of the Black Stars will not be built only on the pitch,” Queiroz remarked. He insisted that reaching a higher competitive level should be viewed not as an endpoint but as a foundation for even greater aspirations. Success, he stated, must begin off the field by establishing the best possible conditions to prepare, protect, and develop Ghana’s exceptional football talent.
