This move comes through a new collaboration between Atari and Universal Pictures, who have partnered with Entertainment 360 to develop feature films inspired by ten of Atari’s iconic properties.
The partnership aims to transform these vintage games into large-scale action-adventure movies, unlocking new storytelling possibilities rooted in gaming history. Titles involved in this ambitious project include Asteroids, Adventure, Berzerk, Breakout, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Millipede, Missile Command, Pong, and Yars’ Revenge.
An Iconic Legacy Set for a New Medium
Reflecting on the deal, Atari’s chairman and CEO Wade Rosen highlighted the enduring cultural impact of these games. Speaking to Deadline, he expressed enthusiasm about expanding the reach of Atari’s beloved brand beyond the realm of gaming. “For more than five decades, Atari has created games and worlds that have remained part of popular culture long after their original release,” Rosen said. “We are excited to work with Universal and Entertainment 360 to bring the spirit of our iconic brand and games to a new medium.”
While Universal Pictures has not yet publicly confirmed specific details regarding the project’s development, sources indicate that the studio has already selected its first film to move forward, though the exact title remains undisclosed at this time.
