Atlanta City FC has officially been introduced as the latest expansion franchise in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). The announcement, made by Arthur Blank‘s AMB Sports and Entertainment on Monday, unveils the club’s identity, featuring a phoenix-inspired logo and a color scheme that pays homage to Georgia’s heritage with peach and white tones.
The introduction of Atlanta City FC marks the culmination of a lengthy process following Blank’s reported $165 million expansion fee payment in November 2025. Although the team is set to begin competing in the league in 2028, the announcement serves as a significant milestone in Atlanta’s journey to joining the NWSL. The franchise will become the league’s 17th team, with Mercedes-Benz Stadium designated as its home ground. Additionally, the club is advancing its infrastructure with a dedicated training facility currently under construction in Marietta.
Distinct Identity Rooted in Local Symbolism
To distinguish itself from Angel City FC based in Los Angeles, the new club will use the name ATL CTY, a nickname already familiar to the city’s residents. The crest prominently features a stylized “A” shaped by the wings of a phoenix, symbolizing rebirth and strength, while a dogwood blossom encircles the emblem, representing the official flower of Georgia. This combination reflects a strong connection to both the city and the state.
Fans eager to show their support will not need to wait until the team’s inaugural season; the club is set to launch its first merchandise collection on October 4th. This initial lineup will include fleece apparel and cropped tops, unveiled at a brand launch event designed to energize the local fanbase ahead of the team’s debut on the pitch.
Leadership and Future Outlook
On the organizational front, Atlanta City FC has appointed former Las Vegas Aces Chief Marketing Officer Deandra Duggans as its chief business officer, signaling a commitment to building a strong operational foundation. This strategic hire aligns with the club’s ambitions to establish a prominent presence both on and off the field.
