As August 2026 progresses, the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) has commenced disbursing this month’s benefits for both the Social Security programs, encompassing retirement, disability, and survivor benefits, as well as Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
The SSA follows a precise payment schedule for these programs, which serve different groups of Americans. Social Security benefits require recipients to have earned sufficient work credits, whereas SSI caters to low-income individuals aged 65 or older or those with disabilities, and does not depend on work history.
August 2026 Payment Distribution Timeline
The SSA has already completed payments to several groups for August 2026. On July 31, the agency issued SSI payments, a day earlier than usual, since the typical payment date, August 1, fell on a non-business day. SSI recipients benefit from this early disbursement, allowing low-income seniors and disabled individuals timely access to their funds.
Following that, on August 3, the SSA paid Social Security benefits to recipients who began receiving their payments before May 1997, as well as those who receive both Social Security and SSI benefits concurrently. This payment date is part of the SSA’s structured timeline to ensure an orderly distribution of funds across different beneficiary groups.
