Deco meets with his agent in Madrid

Hansi Flick is intensifying efforts to secure a new center forward for Barcelona, filling the void left by Robert Lewandowski‘s departure. This need has become even more pressing following Ferran Torres‘ public uncertainty about his future at the club. For nearly a year, the Catalan side has prioritized signing Julián Álvarez to bolster their attacking options.

In a recent development, Deco, acting on behalf of the club, traveled to Madrid to break the deadlock surrounding Álvarez’s transfer. With Atlético Madrid steadfastly refusing to negotiate, Deco’s mission was to devise a clear strategy for the player’s arrival and evaluate the realistic prospects of completing the deal.

Persistent Pursuit Amid Transfer Challenges

The urgency for a forward signing was underscored once again by Flick on Monday, as he reiterated the necessity of reinforcing the squad’s frontline. Meanwhile, Deco, alongside several members of the Barcelona board, has been engaged in ongoing discussions since last year, aiming to satisfy the coach’s demand and assemble a competitive team for the 2025-26 season.

Despite continuous efforts, the transfer remains stalled. Atlético Madrid rejected an offer of 100 million euros from Barcelona and insists on the full payment of Álvarez’s release clause, a condition that has so far prevented the deal from moving forward.
