The Chicago Stars have decided to remain at Martin Stadium for the 2027 season, abandoning their previous intention to move to Northwestern University’s new Ryan Field. This reversal follows concerns raised by residents of Evanston, who expressed reservations about the proposed relocation.
Originally, the Stars planned to become primary tenants of the recently expanded Ryan Field, which now features a 35,000-seat capacity. However, after receiving community pushback, the team opted to extend their lease at Martin Stadium, a more intimate venue that holds 12,000 spectators.
Attendance Challenges Amid Growing Season Ticket Sales
Despite holding the No. 16 spot in the league, the Stars currently sit at the bottom of the standings. Their average attendance remains one of the lowest in the league, with just 4,316 fans per match. This figure is notable given that season ticket sales have increased by 31% compared to the 2025 season.
Stars President Karen Leetzow emphasized the decision’s benefits, stating that continuing to play at Martin Stadium will help enhance the overall fan experience. She highlighted the importance of providing the North Shore community with access to elite women’s professional soccer and remarkable athletes.
