The Chicago Stars have secured a significant addition to their squad by signing defender Leila Ouahabi on a three-year deal. Ouahabi arrives with an impressive track record, having claimed major trophies with top European clubs.

Renowned for her defensive prowess, Ouahabi was instrumental in Barcelona’s 2021 UEFA Women’s Champions League triumph. Following her success in Spain, she continued to amass silverware at Manchester City, where over four seasons she contributed to victories in both the Women’s Super League and the FA Cup.

Midseason Shakeup at Chicago Stars

This acquisition represents the Chicago Stars’ first attempt at a midseason rebuild. The club, currently holding the 15th position, has undergone recent leadership changes, with president Karen Leetzow stepping in as acting general manager after the dismissal of Richard Feuz.

Leetzow expressed enthusiasm about the new signing, highlighting Ouahabi’s extensive experience at elite levels of competition. “We’re thrilled to welcome Leila to the Chicago Stars,” she stated. “Leila is a proven winner and has excelled at some of the biggest clubs and competitions in the world, as well as on the international stage with Spain, and we look forward to her bolstering our back line.”

Reflecting on her new chapter, Ouahabi shared her excitement, emphasizing the fresh challenge ahead. “This is a new challenge in my career,” she said in a team statement. “I look forward to bringing my soccer knowledge and experience to the team. And I want to give the best version of me and help my team do the same.”
