Coco Gauff secured her place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Cincinnati Open after a commanding straight-sets victory over Marie Bouzková on Wednesday. The match lasted just over 90 minutes, with Gauff prevailing 6-3, 6-2.
Gauff’s Aggressive Approach Overwhelms Bouzková
From the outset, the No. 4 seed took control by adopting an aggressive style that featured sharp shot-making and frequent net approaches. Gauff amassed 30 winners and delivered five aces, while efficiently converting three of her break-point opportunities. Equally impressive was her resilience in defense, as she saved all eight break points she encountered throughout the match.
In contrast, Bouzková faced difficulties with her second serve, winning only 35% of those points. Although she attempted to extend rallies early in the second set to regain momentum, Gauff’s tactical adjustment—particularly her improved backhand—allowed her to pull away decisively.
Following the match, Gauff emphasized her attacking mindset, noting, “I was being really aggressive and going for my shots, coming forward, not giving her an opportunity to counterpunch.”
