Starting from the 2026-27 season, the UEFA Champions League will introduce a distinctive new feature: players making their first appearance in the competition will don a special “Debut Patch” on their jerseys. This initiative aims to highlight newcomers to Europe’s premier club tournament in a visually unique way.

Details of the Debut Patch rollout

The “Debut Patch” program will be unveiled midweek on matchday one of the new Champions League season, under a partnership between UEFA and Fanatics Collectibles. This patch, appearing on the sleeve, will bear the word “Debut” alongside the iconic Champions League starball logo.

Players such as Real Madrid’s Yan Diomande and Manchester United’s Bryan Mbeumo and Leny Yoro, who are set to make their Champions League debuts, will sport this patch during their initial matches. After the game, the patches will be collected and sent to Topps, a trading card company owned by Fanatics Collectibles.

Topps will then create exclusive trading cards featuring these players, each personally signed, adding a collectible dimension to the debut recognition.

This new patch initiative is part of a broader collaboration between Fanatics Collectibles and UC3, which manages commercial rights for UEFA’s club competitions. Their partnership, extended through the 2027-33 commercial cycle, encompasses not only trading cards but also sticker collections and collectible card games, enhancing fan engagement through varied merchandise options.
