Leading the championship by a commanding 66 points over his Mercedes teammate George Russell, Antonelli has secured seven victories this season, including an impressive streak of five consecutive wins. With nearly half of the season still remaining, the title race appears to be tilting heavily in his favor.
Despite his remarkable success, Antonelli remains grounded, choosing to conduct the interview from a relaxed spot on a couch within Mercedes’ hospitality area. His approachable demeanor contrasts with the intense pressure of leading a high-stakes competition.
Assessing the New Madrid Circuit
Having walked the newly introduced Madring track earlier in the week, Antonelli described it as a formidable challenge for both drivers and engineers alike. “This track is pretty incredible,” he remarked, emphasizing its variety and complexity. The circuit features a blend of chicanes, high-speed bends, and a banked turn, making it arguably the toughest venue on the calendar.
As a street circuit, it leaves little room for error, demanding precision and focus. Furthermore, its length and numerous corners complicate the task of crafting a flawless lap. Antonelli noted that he had already spent significant time in the simulator preparing for the event, highlighting the track’s unique demands.
