Aston Villa have reached an agreement with Wolves to sign João Gomes permanently, aiming to strengthen manager Unai Emery‘s midfield options ahead of the upcoming season. This move marks a significant step in Villa’s summer transfer activity as they look to bolster their central areas.
In addition to Gomes, Villa are progressing in negotiations with AC Milan over a potential deal for Pervis Estupiñán, targeted as a likely replacement for Lucas Digne. Milan has set a valuation around €20 million, though talks suggest a compromise near €18 million could be reached to complete the transfer.
Loan Movements and Contract Developments
Meanwhile, Getafe have secured the services of Villa right-back Andrés García on loan for the 2026/27 season. The 23-year-old defender is expected to gain valuable playing time following une année largely spent on the bench at Villa Park.
On the contract front, defender Pau Torres intends to fulfill the remaining two years of his contract at Villa before departing on a free transfer to rejoin Villarreal. This plan means Villa will retain his services in the short term but face the prospect of losing a transfer fee later.
The club is also pursuing another midfielder for around £21 million, described as “another Onana,” to complement João Gomes and further solidify Emery’s midfield engine room.
In other squad news, Morgan Rogers has been linked with interest from Arsenal, following their recent acquisition of Christos Tzolis, adding uncertainty over the Villa attacker’s future at the club.
Additionally, winger Evann Guessand has returned for pre-season preparations after Crystal Palace opted not to exercise their purchase option. The £30.5 million signing experienced mixed loan spells but contributed to winning both Europa and Conference League medals. Guessand is seen as a versatile option capable of playing across wide and wing-back positions.
As Aston Villa continues to shape its squad for the 2026/27 campaign, these moves demonstrate a clear intent to reinforce key areas while managing player development and contract situations strategically.
