Australia’s women’s cricket team continued their dominant form at the T20 Women’s World Cup by securing a commanding 113-run victory over Pakistan at Headingley. This triumph marked their fourth consecutive group stage win and the largest margin of victory so far in the tournament.

Ellyse Perry Leads Australia to a Strong Total and Key Bowling Breakthrough

Batting first, Australia posted a formidable 199 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs, propelled by a stellar innings from Ellyse Perry, who scored 71 runs off 48 balls. Perry’s aggressive approach featured nine boundaries and a six, culminating in her second-fastest half-century in T20 cricket. Alongside her, Georgia Voll contributed a vital 39 runs, and the pair forged a 100-run partnership for the second wicket after opener Beth Mooney was dismissed on the very first ball of the match by a spectacular diving catch from Gull Feroza.

Late contributions from Annabel Sutherland, who scored 27, and Nicola Carey, unbeaten on 26 from 13 deliveries, helped maintain the momentum and set a challenging target for Pakistan. Perry’s impact was not limited to her batting; with her very first ball as a bowler, she triggered Pakistan’s collapse, bowling them out for just 86 runs in 13.4 overs.

Pakistan’s innings was marred by three run outs, reflecting a disorganized chase from a side that had already been eliminated following four straight defeats. Their highest individual score came from Muneeba Ali, who managed 32 runs.

The only setback for Australia during the match was an injury scare involving Beth Mooney, who appeared to dislocate a finger while keeping wicket. Despite requiring two medical breaks, Mooney was able to continue playing.

The group stage of the T20 Women’s World Cup concludes on Sunday with a crucial match between Australia and India, a contest expected to determine the second team advancing from the group.
