Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed that Brajan Gruda will spend the 2026/27 season on loan at RB Leipzig, marking a continuation of his impressive development in the Bundesliga. The Germany U21 international, who contributed three goals and three assists in 13 league appearances last season, will don the No 10 jersey under manager Martín Demichelis.
Gruda’s move to Leipzig includes an obligation to buy, following a £25 million transfer from Brighton earlier this year. During his time at Albion, the attacking midfielder made a significant impact with four goals and eight assists, excelling in the No 10 role before hitting a rich vein of form at Leipzig.
Meanwhile, Brighton are preparing to send 20-year-old winger Tommy Watson out on loan again as they seek regular playing time for the former Sunderland prospect. Watson’s recent stint at Millwall offered limited opportunities, and with interest from six clubs including West Ham United, Albion are evaluating the best destination to aid his development.
Squad Reinforcements and Transfer Activity
In transfer dealings, Brighton have made a statement signing by acquiring 19-year-old Croate defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur for a club-record fee of £46 million, potentially rising to £50 million. Vuskovic, who spent last season on loan at Hamburg featuring in 30 matches and scoring six goals, has signed a contract extending until 2031. His arrival has been warmly endorsed by Brighton’s sporting director Hurzeler.
On the scouting front, Brighton have opened talks regarding 18-year-old winger Maxloren Castro from Sporting Cristal. After a prolonged period of observation, Albion have formally enquired about the player’s availability. However, Belgian club Genk have already lodged a formal offer, positioning themselves ahead in the race as Brighton assess both the proposal and Castro’s situation.
Adding to the international dimension of Brighton’s squad, recent World Cup performances have highlighted several players connected to the club. Goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen impressed for the Netherlands, while Maxim De Cuyper helped Belgium reach the quarterfinals. Sweden’s Yasin Ayari scored twice, and former Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross made a handful of appearances as Germany exited the tournament earlier than expected.
