Treyarch has confirmed that the iconic Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 will receive new ports for PlayStation consoles, scheduled for release next month. This announcement arrives alongside the upcoming launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, set to debut in 2026 for both PS4 and PS5.
The ports, developed exclusively for PlayStation by Iron Galaxy—the studio behind last year’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 port—promise to include the full experience of both classic titles. Players can expect access to the campaign, multiplayer modes, and the beloved Zombies mode. However, details regarding cross-play functionality with PC and older Xbox versions have yet to be clarified.
PlayStation’s Long-Awaited Return to Black Ops
These ports mark a significant development for PlayStation users, as Black Ops 1 and 2 have not been natively available on modern PlayStation hardware until now. While the games have remained accessible on Xbox and PC through backward compatibility, their transition to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 has been hindered by technical challenges, given the original releases were made for PlayStation 3.
By bringing these classics back to PlayStation platforms, Treyarch closes a long-standing gap in the franchise’s availability, offering fans a chance to revisit or experience these seminal titles for the first time in several console generations.
Alongside these ports, 2026 will also see the debut of the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Notably, its release has been strategically scheduled to avoid competing with other major titles such as Grand Theft Auto VI, indicating a carefully planned launch window for the franchise’s next chapter.
