JuJu Watkins, the standout guard for the USC Trojans, has been named to the 2026/27 preseason watch list for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, marking her third consecutive nomination for the prestigious honor.
This recognition sets Watkins apart as she pursues a historic third award—a milestone no shooting guard in NCAA women’s basketball history has yet achieved. Since the award’s inception in 2018, Watkins has already secured the trophy twice, first as a freshman and again as a sophomore.
JuJu Watkins Could 3-Peat NCAA Drysdale Award This Season
Watkins’ collegiate career reached new heights before an unfortunate ACL injury during the 2025 NCAA Tournament sidelined her for the entire 2025/26 season. Prior to her injury, she dominated the court, averaging 24.6 points per game and sweeping major accolades including the Naismith Trophy, Wooden Award, and Associated Press Player of the Year.
Despite being out of action for 580 days, Watkins showed no signs of rust during USC’s recent preseason games. In an exhibition victory over Cal on octobre 25th, she posted 18 points along with three steals and two blocks, a clear indication that she is ready to make a strong return.
As the preseason shooting guard of the year favorite and the Big Ten’s Preseason Player of the Year, Watkins is set to officially resume her campaign on Novembre 2nd when USC faces UNLV in the season opener.
