As July 2026 comes to an end, the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) has completed most of its scheduled benefit payments for the month, covering both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients.
The SSA has already distributed July’s payments for Social Security programs, which include retirement, disability, and survivor benefits, as well as for SSI. Despite this, there remains one Plus payment round to be completed before August begins, specifically for SSI beneficiaries.
Early August SSI Payment Programmé for July 31
The SSA plans to send out August’s SSI payments on Friday, July 31, one day earlier than the usual schedule. Normally, SSI payments are made on the first day of each month, but because August 1 falls on a non-business day this year, the distribution has been advanced to ensure timely delivery.
SSI is a federal benefit program designed for individuals with low income and limited resources who are either over 65 years old or have qualifying disabilities. Unlike Social Security benefits, which require recipients to have earned a certain number of work credits, SSI eligibility is independent of employment history. This program is funded through general tax revenues rather than Social Security payroll taxes, emphasizing its role as a needs-based assistance initiative.
