Brandon Sanderson has announced a significant breakthrough in the long-anticipated film adaptation of his beloved fantasy series, Mistborn. Marking the 20th anniversary of the original novel, Mistborn: The Final Empire, Sanderson revealed on X that he has completed the first draft of the screenplay, adhering to the timeline he had previously shared with his audience.
Sharing his excitement, Sanderson stated, “After many months of work, I’m thrilled to announce the first draft of the Mistborn screenplay is DONE! Just in time to celebrate the book’s original publication, twenty years ago this month. Do please remember that this is just an early step in a very long process, but I’m terribly excited by how it turned out!”
This milestone represents the initial major phase in Apple’s ambitious project to adapt the Cosmere universe, a shared setting for many of Sanderson’s novels. Earlier this year, Apple secured an agreement with Sanderson to develop this expansive world for the screen, with the author maintaining close involvement and substantial creative control throughout the process.
