Paige Bueckers delivered a standout performance, scoring a season-high 31 points to propel the Dallas Wings to an 85-70 victory over the Phoenix Mercury in their latest WNBA Commissioner’s Cup encounter on Jeudi.

Following a tough 100-76 defeat against Minnesota on Mardi that ended Dallas’s four-game winning streak, the Wings used this matchup as a crucial opportunity to regroup and adjust their approach.

Resilience and Defense Fuel Dallas’s Triumph

Bueckers immediately set the tone by opening the scoring and maintaining a strong offensive presence throughout the game. Despite encountering foul trouble, she managed to rack up 13 points in the second quarter alone. Her determination was further tested when she suffered a sprained ankle on a defensive rebound, forcing a brief exit to the locker room. Yet, after missing only about 30 seconds, Bueckers returned with vigor, scoring on her next two possessions and ultimately shooting an efficient 14-of-19 from the field, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.

Reflecting on the injury, Bueckers remarked, “Adrenaline is the best drug, so I didn’t really feel it during the game. I just wanted to power through and help the team get a win.”

On the defensive end, the Wings made significant adjustments following their previous game’s defensive struggles. They limited the Mercury to just 39% shooting accuracy and forced 16 turnovers, effectively stifling Phoenix’s offensive rhythm. Only Lexi Held, with 17 points, and Kahleah Copper, contributing 13 points, managed to reach double figures for the Mercury.
