The animated series ‘Rick and Morty’, which debuted in 2013 as a wild parody inspired by the dynamic between Marty and Doc from Back to the Future, is set to make its first feature film appearance. Over the past decade, the show has become a cornerstone of Adult Swim’s programming, maintaining strong viewership and cultural relevance through nine seasons.
Having firmly established itself since its launch on Cartoon Network, the series continues to expand its universe with ambitious plans. Less than un mois ago, the ninth season premiered, and alongside the continuing adventures of the eccentric grandfather and grandson duo, new projects are on the horizon.
Expanding the Universe: Spin-Offs and a Feature Film
In addition to the original show, fans can look forward to a spin-off series titled ‘President Curtis’, centered around one of the franchise’s most recognizable characters, voiced by Keith David. This new series is slated to debut in late 2026, offering a fresh perspective within the same universe created by Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland.
Beyond television, the franchise’s reach is extending to the big screen. According to Collider, citing an interview with Michael Ouweleen, president of Cartoon Network, the feature film is scheduled for release in 2027. This move marks a significant milestone for the series, translating its macabre and chaotic charm into a cinematic experience.
