Early next week, certain Social Security beneficiaries across the United States will receive their monthly payments for August 2026 as the Social Security Administration (SSA) initiates its disbursement schedule.
Specifically, on Monday, August 3, two distinct groups of recipients are set to have their Social Security benefits deposited.
Recipients Programmé for Payment on August 3
The first group includes long-term beneficiaries who began claiming Social Security benefits prior to May 1997. This cohort will receive their August payments as part of the SSA’s scheduled distribution.
The second group encompasses individuals who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments. SSI, designed to assist low-income seniors aged 65 and above or those with disabilities, operates on a needs-based system independent of employment history, distinguishing it from standard Social Security benefits.
While SSI benefits are generally paid on the first of each month, August’s SSI payments will be distributed slightly earlier, on Friday, July 31, due to the first day of August falling on a non-business day. The average monthly SSI payment amounts to approximately $738.10.
Below are the average monthly Social Security payments as reported by the SSA:
- Retirement benefits: $2,029.92
- Disability benefits: $1,496.16
- Survivor benefits: $1,631.39
