At Summer Game Fest, the gaming community was introduced to the third chapter of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy. Fans eagerly awaited the title of this concluding installment, and the announcement of Final Fantasy VII Revelation brought clarity to much speculation. Director Naoki Hamaguchi has since shed light on the meaning behind this title.

In an interview with Game Informer, Hamaguchi emphasized that the concept of “resolve” is pivotal to the narrative and characters throughout the game. While the previous titles, Remake and Rebirth, follow an “R-E” naming pattern, the choice of “Revelation” was independent of this motif.

Exploring the Theme of Resolve

Hamaguchi explained that “resolve” encapsulates the mindset and determination of the player characters as they face their climactic battles. He elaborated on the emotional and psychological states that define the protagonists’ journey: “What kind of resolve do they have in them? What are they feeling? What are they thinking about?” According to him, this theme permeates the entire chapter, shaping the narrative’s core.

Despite the thematic weight of “resolve,” the director clarified that it was not a candidate for the game’s title. Instead, the team chose “Revelation” to represent the game’s essence, though the coincidence of the “R-E” pattern remained.
