Iga Świątek secured a straight-sets victory over Iva Jovic on Wednesday at the China Open 2026 in Beijing, winning 6-1, 6-3 in the tournament’s fourth round. This triumph marked her 148th main-draw win in a WTA 1000 event, tying her with Serena Williams for seventh place on the all-time list.

Świątek Controls Match from the Start

The six-time Grand Slam champion wasted no time establishing dominance, capturing the first five games consecutively to create a commanding lead in the opening set. Although Jovic managed to claim just one game in that initial frame, she showed resilience in the second set, competing more effectively against the top-seeded player.

Ranked No. 13 and fresh off a title victory in Guadalajara last month, the 18-year-old American initially held her serve, but Świątek broke twice late in the second set to seal the match. The encounter lasted one hour and 36 minutes, with Świątek exhibiting a notably aggressive approach throughout.

Following the match, Świątek reflected, “Everything was working today. I was more proactive. I was using more of the chances that I got.”

Świątek’s Momentum Continues in 2026

Świątek’s performance in Beijing adds to a string of impressive results throughout the 2026 WTA season. She has now amassed nine victories against top 20 opponents this year, underscoring her consistency at the highest level of competition. Furthermore, this win marks her 31st career quarterfinal appearance at WTA 1000 tournaments, highlighting her sustained presence among the sport’s elite.
