Following the Indiana Fever’s elimination from the 2026 WNBA playoffs by the Las Vegas Aces, guard Sophie Cunningham has entered unrestricted free agency. The Fever’s postseason run concluded with a 94-83 defeat in Game 3 at Michelob Ultra Arena on Thursday night, leaving Cunningham faced with a pivotal offseason decision.

How Cunningham’s 2026 Season Contract and Performance Unfolded

Recovering from a 2025 MCL tear, Cunningham signed a one-year deal worth $665,000 with Indiana ahead of the 2026 campaign. With limited opportunities to try out for other teams during the offseason, the Fever represented her most viable route back to professional play, and she capitalized on the chance.

Throughout 43 regular-season games, the 30-year-old guard averaged 7.9 points per game, shooting an efficient 46% from the field and an impressive 41.9% from beyond the arc. Her scoring prowess off the bench made her Indiana’s leading reserve contributor.

Prior to joining the Fever, Cunningham spent six seasons with the Phoenix Mercury. Her experience, combined with sharp perimeter shooting and tenacious defense, addressed a vital role on a roster still in development around star player Caitlin Clark.
