Alexander Isak acknowledged that Liverpool still have “lots to improve” despite his decisive goal securing a 2-1 victory over a depleted Brentford side in west London. The Swedish striker’s goal marked his fifth of the season and came shortly after the hosts were reduced to ten men.

The match initially saw Brentford take the lead through Keane Lewis-Potter with a well-placed header. However, the tide turned just before halftime when Yehor Yarmoliuk received a straight red card for a headbutt on Jeremy Jacquet, leaving the Bees one man short.

Liverpool capitalized on their advantage as Victor Munoz equalized, setting the stage for Isak to fire home the winner in the 70th minute. Despite the numerical superiority, the visitors found it difficult to close out the game comfortably, a challenge compounded late on when Vitaly Janelt was shown a second yellow card in stoppage time, reducing Brentford to nine players.

Struggles in the Final Minutes

After being substituted off, Isak described his experience watching the closing stages nervously from the bench. “I think there’s still lots to improve. We’re taking steps and we’re grabbing points on the way which is important,” he said, adding that the substitutes were urging the team to maintain possession and see out the match.

The win propelled Andoni Iraola’s squad into fifth place in the Premier League, just two points behind second-placed Arsenal. However, Iraola expressed frustration over his team’s inability to manage the final moments effectively. “I think we played really well until the 2-1. After that we started to protect something, I think we didn’t manage the last minutes well,” he commented on the game’s closing stages.
