Liverpool have officially secured the transfer of French Under-21 centre-back Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes in a deal reported to be worth up to £60 million ($79 million). The Premier League club reached an agreement for the 20-year-old defender earlier this year, finalizing a five-year contract at Anfield with an option to extend for an additional year, pending international clearance.
Jacquet, who progressed through Rennes’ youth academy, made 33 senior appearances for the Ligue 1 side before spending the 2024/25 season on loan at Clermont. Despite a shoulder injury sustained in February that sidelined him for the latter part of the previous campaign, the young centre-back is expected to be ready for selection ahead of Liverpool’s pre-season preparations.
A New Chapter at Anfield
Addressing the move on Liverpool’s official website, Jacquet expressed his excitement about joining one of England’s most storied clubs. “I feel really good, the first impressions are good and I am very happy to start here,” he said. “It’s a big dream for me.”
This signing reflects Liverpool’s ambition to reinforce their defensive options with promising talent from across Europe, investing significantly in a player who has already gained valuable top-flight experience in France.
