The Chicago Sky have added guard Kate Martin to their roster through a developmental contract, securing her services just days after she was released by the LA Sparks. This signing comes as the WNBA season approaches its final stages, offering Martin a fresh opportunity to contribute.
Kate Martin’s WNBA Journey So Far
Martin’s path in the WNBA has been marked by several transitions since she was selected 18th overall in the 2024 draft by the Las Vegas Aces. After beginning her professional career with the Aces, she was later picked up by the Golden State Valkyries during the 2025 expansion draft but was released in early May.
Shortly after her release from Golden State, the LA Sparks signed Martin to a developmental contract and eventually upgraded her to a standard deal. Despite this, her playing time and impact remained limited, as she appeared in 17 games for Los Angeles, averaging 2.3 points per outing before being waived in late August.

Now with the Chicago Sky, Martin brings a skill set characterized by solid distribution and court awareness, attributes developed during her collegiate career at Iowa. Over five seasons there, she amassed 473 assists, ranking fifth all-time in the program’s history, showcasing her ability to facilitate offense effectively.
As the WNBA schedule resumes on September 17 following the FIBA World Cup break, Martin is eligible to suit up for the Sky’s home game against the Washington Mystics. Her addition provides Chicago with an experienced guard capable of strengthening their backcourt depth during this critical stretch of the season.
