Kim Weiss has been appointed as the inaugural head coach of the PWHL Las Vegas expansion team. The announcement was made by General Manager Dominique DiDia on Sunday, just two days before the 2026 PWHL Draft in Detroit.
Kim Weiss Brings Elite Coaching Experience to the PWHL
Before taking the helm in Las Vegas, Weiss spent two seasons with the American Hockey League’s Colorado Eagles. She began her tenure there in 2024 as a video coach and earned a mid-season promotion to assistant coach in January 2026. This advancement made her only the second woman in history to hold a full-time assistant coaching position in either the AHL or NHL, following Jessica Campbell.
At 37 years old, Weiss brings a unique perspective to the PWHL, acknowledging that opportunities like this were not available during her youth. Reflecting on her journey, she expressed gratitude for those who supported her advancement in the sport.
“Much of what I’ve experienced over the last few years wasn’t something I dreamed about growing up because those opportunities simply didn’t exist,” Weiss said. “I’m incredibly grateful for the people and organizations that have helped me along the way.”
PWHL Las Vegas GM Reunites with Head Coach Weiss
The hiring also marks a reunion for DiDia and Weiss, who were teammates for three seasons at Trinity College. DiDia highlighted Weiss’s exceptional ability to develop players and foster a competitive team culture as key reasons behind the decision.
