Real Madrid officially announced the acquisition of French defender Ibrahima Konate on Thursday, securing the former Liverpool centre-back’s services with a contract extending until June 2030.

The transfer marks Konate’s move following the expiration of his contract at Anfield, where he had spent three years after joining from RB Leipzig in 2021. During his tenure at Liverpool, the 27-year-old amassed 183 appearances and contributed significantly to the club’s successes, including lifting the Premier League trophy in 2025 and the FA Cup in 2022.

Currently representing France at the World Cup, Konate is the latest player to bolster a Real Madrid squad undergoing major transformations ahead of the upcoming season.

Revamping the Squad Under Mourinho

Under the guidance of new head coach Jose Mourinho, Real Madrid has welcomed not only Konate but also Spain international Marc Cucurella and Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva this summer. The club is actively reshaping its roster after enduring two seasons without securing a major trophy.

In addition to these signings, Madrid has extended defender Antonio Rudiger’s contract through 2027. Meanwhile, veterans Dani Carvajal and David Alaba have left the club following the conclusion of their contracts. Speculation remains around a potential move for Inter Milan’s wing-back Denzel Dumfries as the club continues to pursue reinforcements.
