Leanne Wong, the two-time world all-around silver medalist, has officially withdrawn from the 2026 US Gymnastics Championships following a knee injury sustained during podium training. The announcement came just two days before the competition was set to begin in Phoenix, removing one of the top contenders from the field.

The injury, described as a hyperextension of the knee, occurred on Tuesday, the day before the meet’s start. Wong had been preparing to compete in the rotations scheduled for Friday and Sunday but will now be sidelined as the event proceeds without her participation.

Circumstances Surrounding Wong’s Withdrawal

The timing of the injury was particularly unfortunate, disrupting the build-up to the championships when athletes finalize their routines and conditioning. Wong took to Instagram on Wednesday to share her decision and reflect on the setback, expressing gratitude for the support she received.

In her message, she wrote, “This isn’t how I wanted this week to go, but I trust that God’s plan is greater than my own. Thank you all for the love and support. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead and trusting the process.”

With Wong’s exit, the competition in Phoenix loses one of its most accomplished gymnasts, shifting the dynamics among the remaining athletes vying for national titles and spots on future international teams.
