Boston Legacy FC, the city’s newest National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team, has confirmed that all its home games for the 2027 season will take place at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. This announcement comes as plans for a permanent move to Boston’s White Stadium have encountered significant setbacks.
The club’s original intention was to inaugurate White Stadium as its home ground, following an ambitious partnership with the City of Boston and Boston Public Schools to renovate the 10,500-seat Franklin Park venue. This project, which formed a central part of the Legacy’s 2023 expansion bid, aimed to provide a dedicated and revitalized stadium for the team’s future.
However, unforeseen increases in construction costs coupled with ongoing legal complications have stalled progress. As a result, the Legacy’s anticipated transition to White Stadium has been postponed, with the club now eyeing a 2028 debut at the venue instead.
Facing Challenges, Securing a Temporary Home
During this period of delay, the Legacy has been navigating a split inaugural season, playing matches between Gillette Stadium in Foxborough and temporary arrangements in Pawtucket. The decision to host the entire 2027 season at Centreville Bank Stadium offers the team a stable home base while the Boston stadium project remains on hold.
Jennifer Epstein, controlling owner of Boston Legacy FC, expressed gratitude toward the team’s supporters, partners, and municipal collaborators despite the hurdles. She emphasized the shared commitment to the club’s vision and the collective effort to advance it despite setbacks.
While the Legacy continues to build its presence both on and off the field, the shift to a Rhode Island venue for 2027 reflects the complexities involved in stadium development and the adaptability required of a growing franchise within the NWSL landscape.
