Polish forward Robert Lewandowski marked his home debut for Chicago Fire with an impressive brace, propelling his team to a comeback victory against Charlotte on Saturday.
Soldier Field witnessed a crowd of 32,183 spectators eager to see the former Barcelona star in action. Lewandowski delivered on their expectations, scoring twice to overturn the deficit and secure the win for the Fire.
Charlotte initially took the lead through a goal by Spaniard Pep Biel in the 18th minute. However, Lewandowski responded swiftly, leveling the score just 93 seconds later with a precise, low right-footed shot that found the near post past the goalkeeper.
In the second half, Lewandowski completed his brace by converting a well-placed assist from Finland’s Robin Lod. The Polish striker finished confidently inside the box with a sharp cross-shot, ensuring Chicago Fire’s lead and eventual victory.
Griezmann provides an assist, but Orlando loses
Meanwhile, Orlando City, featuring French forward Antoine Griezmann, suffered a 2-3 defeat on their trip to face the New York Red Bulls. Though Griezmann did not score, he contributed by assisting the team’s second goal, a contribution that ultimately fell short of earning any points for Orlando.
